SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management

This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of the industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others, and make a range of operational business decisions.

• Face-to-face 13.5 hrs (blended delivery mode combined with classroom and practical training in a commercial kitchen setting) + 6.5 hrs online Activities (per week) +  192 hrs work placement in total.

Students who completed this course may be able to seek employment in restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafes, and coffee shops.
Possible job titles may include:

Completion of SIT40516 Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management is required for this course

Prior to Enrolment
Must be at least 18 years of age and have completed at least senior high school year 12 or equivalent.

Academic Requirements:

• Domestic Applicants: Successful completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent.
• International Applicants: Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and have completed the equivalent of Year 12

English Requirements:

• An IELTS score of 6.0 with no band less than 5.5 or equivalent.
• English language competence can also be demonstrated through any of the following:
• Completion of a Certificate III or at least 6 months of a Certificate IV level course or above in an Australian college.
• ELICOS Upper-Intermediate level or Above from approved ELICOS Provider.
• English Placement Test (EPT).
• Other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL are accepted. Students must provide their results to confirm they are equivalent to IELTS 6.0.

Note: International students who do not meet the English language requirements for this course may undertake an English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS).

For Packaged courses, the student cannot progress to the higher qualification unless the student has (successfully) completed the lower qualification.

The SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management qualification comprises 28 units in total comprising of 11 core and 17 elective units from the Hospitality, Business, and Services Training Package. These electives have been selected as being most appropriate for people with a wide variety of experience and knowledge who are seeking a firm understanding of modern Hospitality practices.

  • 6 terms of 10 weeks each (60 weeks total)

Note: This qualification will be delivered for 26 weeks for students who have completed SIT40521 Certificate IV in Kitchen Management from TKL College and 16 units credited towards SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality and Management. Or This qualification will be delivered for 39 weeks for students who have completed SIT40516 Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery from TKL College and 12 units credited towards SIT50422 Diploma of Hospitality Management

• Assessment will occur through a variety of methods, including projects incorporating role-plays, case studies and short answer questions.
• Note that for international students satisfactory course progress is required to meet visa requirements. More information can be found in the International Student Handbook.
• Students must also supply their own laptop with Microsoft Office software e.g. Office 365 Personal that includes Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Publisher. For printing your completed assessments, you will need to have your USB. Please refer to the International Student Handbook for the specification and other technical requirements.

Upon acceptance of a student's application for enrolment, a letter of offer, as well as a written agreement and tax invoice for the remaining fees, will be forwarded to students. Students must read through all the provided information as it will provide all the necessary information about the course of study. A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) letter will be issued once the signed acceptance of the offer, written agreement and payments are received.
Orientation class will be held one week before the commencement of the course. The orientation class will include information about the campus, living in Australia, accessing our support services and methods for achieving success throughout the course, including course progress requirements.
