TKL College has the following entry requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have completed minimum Senior high school of Year 11 or equivalent
  • Completion of SIT40516 Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery
  • An IELTS score of 5.5 with no band less than 5 or equivalent. English language competence can also be demonstrated through any of the following:
  • Completed Certificate III or at least 6 months of a Certificate IV level course or above in an Australian College or
  • ELICOS Upper-Intermediate level or
  • English Placement Test (EPT).

*Note that other English language tests such as PTE and TOEFL can be accepted. Students are required to provide their results so that it can be confirmed they are equivalent to IELTS 5.5.

  • International students are required to attend 20 hours (i.e. two and a half days) of face-to- face classroom training per week.
  • The TKL entry requirement for this qualification is that students must have completed the SIT40516 Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery from any Provider and have already completed at least 14 required units. Students from TKL College with SIT50416 have completed 7 more additional required units and will require to complete only 7 units
  • Supervised training hours consist of Classroom training for 500 hrs while assessment in the Classrooms for  300hrs
  • Unsupervised training hours may include research for assessments and general reading and is expected to be an average of 5 hours a week.
  • The qualification is delivered over 52 weeks comprising of:
    • 4 terms of 10 weeks each (40 weeks total)
    • Holiday breaks for 12 weeks (as specified in the timetable.)
  • January, April, July, October (Midterm Intake available.)
  • Timetable: The schedule for this course will be indicated in the Letter of Offer. TKL College offers morning and afternoon classes from Monday to Friday.

Note: This qualification will be delivered for 26 weeks for students who have completed SIT40516 Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery from TKL College. They will have 21 units credited towards SIT50416 Diploma of Hospitality and Management.

  • Tuition fee: A$12,000
  • Enrolment fee: A$200 (non-refundable)
  • A detailed payment plan and payment arrangements are provided in the letter of offer and written agreement
  • Course fees do not include computer software or textbooks, which are to be purchased at the student’s own cost. Non-payment of course fees may result in the cancellation of enrolment.
  • Additionally, students are required to buy their own appropriate uniforms according to work placement requirements.

  • Assessment will occur through a variety of methods, including projects incorporating role- plays, case studies, and short answer questions.

  • Equipment: Students must also supply their laptop with Microsoft Office software e.g. Office 365 Personal that includes Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Publisher. For printing completed assessments, students need to have their USB. Please refer to the International Student Handbook for the specification and other technical requirements.

Upon acceptance of a student’s application for enrolment, a letter of offer, as well as a written agreement and tax invoice for remaining fees, will be forwarded to students. Students must read through all the provided information as it will provide all the necessary information about the course of study. A Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) letter will be issued once the signed acceptance of the offer, written agreement, and payments are received.

The first day of each course will include orientation and induction. Orientation will include information about the campus, living in Australia, accessing our support services, and methods for achieving success throughout the course, including course progress requirements.

Course Overview

This qualification reflects the role of highly skilled senior operators who use a broad range of hospitality skills combined with managerial skills and sound knowledge of the industry to coordinate hospitality operations. They operate independently, have responsibility for others, and make a range of operational business decisions.

Career Outcomes

Students who completed this course may be able to seek employment in restaurants, hotels, motels, catering operations, clubs, pubs, cafés, and coffee shops. Possible job titles may include:

Course Structure

The SIT50416 Diploma of Hospitality Management qualification comprises 28 units in total comprising of 13 core and 15 elective units from the Hospitality, Business, and Services Training Package.
These electives have been selected as being most appropriate for people with a wide variety of experience and knowledge who are seeking a firm understanding of modern Hospitality practices.

Education Pathways

After completing this course, students may wish to study SIT60316 Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management or higher education qualifications in management. NOTE: Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management is currently not offered at TKL College.

Course credit

Students may apply for recognition of existing qualifications or skills, knowledge, and experience (credit transfer or recognition of prior learning) as per the information included in our International Student Handbook, which is available at www.tkl.edu.au.
For international students, the granting of course credit may affect course fees as well as the duration of the course.
The result of an application for credit and any changes to fees or course duration will be advised to students in writing.
If course credit is granted following the issuance of the Confirmation of Enrolment, students will receive a new Confirmation of Enrolment showing a reduced duration. For any questions about course credit, contact us via info@tkl.edu.au.
